Tanzania Chamber of Commerce Industry and Agriculture (TCCIA) has conducted its 10th trade fair held from 28th August to 7th September 2015 at Dar es salaam Institute of Technology, Ilemela Mwanza. It was organized and hosted by TCCIA Mwanza Branch in its efforts to promote the success and growth of business within the country and East African region.
Speaking to exhibitors and the general public, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Mr Uledi A. Musa who was the Guest of Honour, also used this occasion to announce that, the government will now open a branch of Tanzania Trade Development (TANTRADE) office in Lake Zone which will be hosted in Mwanza region. He said so after recognizing the efforts being done by TCCIA in organizing such an outstanding exhibitions which brought together entrepreneurs from East African countries. Mr. Uledi also acknowledged the attendance of Honourable Mr Sandeep Arya, the High Commissioner of India and his effort in strengthening business relationships between Tanzania and India.
The Chairman of TCCIA Mwanza Mr. Elibarik Mmari expressed his thanks to all exhibitors for devoting their time to attend the trade fair adding that; it is an opportunity for them to network and enhance business competitiveness. He also invited entrepreneurs to enrol as members of TCCIA in order to benefit more from its services tailored for enterprises growth.
In total 107 exhibitors from East African countries participated. Enterprises were from different sectors including Agriculture, manufacturing, food processing and services. Out of these, 13 companies were awarded prizes as best participants in this trade fair whereby Tanganyika Instant Coffee Company Limited ranked the first. Business Processes Coordinator Ms. Rahel Emanuel and Marketing and Business Processes Specialist Ms. Zahra Mahmoud from TCCIA HQs also joined hands with TCCIA Mwanza in providing advisory assistance to exhibitors and recruiting new members to TCCIA. Their participation is part of the UNV support to TCCIA.
Parallel to this event, the High Commission of India in Tanzania in collaboration with TCCIA Mwanza and Confederation of Tanzanian Industries (CTI) organized a seminar titled “Doing business with India” conducted at Gold Crest Hotel on 3rd Sept 2015 aimed at building awareness on how to do business with India. Participants were exposed to business and investment opportunities available in India. In addition, the TCCIA Mwanza Vice Chairman, Mr. Mohamed A. Burhan and CTI Vice Chairman Mr. Kiran Patel outlined the various opportunities available in Tanzania for Indian investors. Furthermore, Mr. Robert Shetkintong, the Deputy High Commissioner of India during his presentation on business and investment opportunities in India, did invite local entrepreneurs to visit India High Commission in case of any need for business information and support.
Participants appreciated very much the initiative of TCCIA for organizing this trade fair. One of the local exhibitors from Strength Company Limited Mr. Ndihagati H. Biduga, in his appreciation remarks said that, “really by this Mwanza trade fair, I have got many orders, sold a lot of my stock of products and many potential customers became aware of my products, I will never miss any future TCCIA trade fairs, I will participate even next year”. A representative from MOVIT Products Limited from Uganda gave the special thanks to the management and staff of TCCIA for organizing this trade fair and appreciated the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania for their support.
Mwanza East Africa Trade Fair is one of the three trade fairs that are organised by TCCIA countrywide. The other two are Tanga and Mbeya. This annual event usually takes place every end of August and beginning of September.
